    thirties was ridiculous in the extreme as far as most parents were concerned For many years the roll boasted of 30 pupils but in reality particularly during the sowing and harvesting seasons numbers often dwindled to three or four Night classes however were a different proposition and classes such Woodwork Gaelic League Drama Needlework and Cookery were a regular feature during the dark dreary nights of winter Many of these classes had been the brainchild of the second Teacher in Charge Mr Mclnemey who incidentally died tragically in a turbine accident near Scark New Ross He was replaced be Mr Frank Barry who was subsequently transferred to Enniscorthy The next Teacher in Charge was the school s Irish Teacher Mr Tommy Carey These were the days of want during the Emergency of 1939 45 when war ravaged the World particularly Europe Supply of essential foodstuffs was guaranteed by the rationing system Very often the ingenuity of Tommy Carey was equally important in keeping the doors of the Technical School open At one point when closure seemed imminent he arrived back from god knows where with sixteen pairs of bicycle tyres which enabled the students to continue their education and cycle to school The advent of free education and transport in the mid sixties revolutionised Irish Education not least the Vocational Schools as they had now come to be known Mr Vincent O Dwyer replaced the retiring Mr Carey as Principal in 1973 Two years later the schools first Vice Principal Mr Terry Nagle was appointed They both spearheaded a massive upgrading of the school buildings student facilities and the curriculum The first Leaving Cert students sat their exams in 1979 Enrolments continued to increase and staff numbers likewise Mr O Dwyer launched the school to new heights His untimely death

    of subject choice All students study a set of core subjects that includes the following Irish English Maths Career Guidance PE Students choose additional subjects from the following Engineering Construction Studies Home Economics Business Geography Biology French Art Music Design and Communication Graphics LCVP This is a type of Leaving Cert in which the students sit six regular Leaving Cert subjects and two link modules as follows Preparation for the World of Work Enterprise In addition our LCVP students study a Basic French unit The other feature that characterises the LCVP is that the subject choice must include a certain combination of practical or business subjects Learning Support The reading and numerical abilities of incoming first year students are assessed with standardised tests and learning support is made available to those that require it Students are withdrawn individually or in in small groups during First and Second Year and assisted by our Learning Support teacher in both English and Maths Guidance Counselling The Guidance Counsellor is available to all students and parents A Career Guidance programme is conducted with Leaving Certs Options for Employment Training and Third Level Career and College Research Individual Guidance Job Applications CVs Letters of Application and Interview Techniques Study Skills and Exam Techniques Visits to Open Days and Career Exhibitions CAO Application both online and by paper Discipline Structure Our school has a discipline system that has been put in place to ensure the smooth running of the school while respecting the rights of students parents and staff alike Our discipline system consists of the following DIARY Every student carries a diary which contains a copy of the school rules The diary is used by the student to record homework assignments Teachers may enter comments about a student s progress and parents may communicate with
