    and how it should come about We have made a first draft of such a possible Declaration for A New Republic A New Ireland see accompanying document We have been working with groups over a number of months and have tried to make it inspiring inclusive value based rooted in current realities and visionary We are now embarking on a process to create and mobilise for A New Republic A New Ireland which will include three stages The first stage is to engage the public including organisations campaigns etc in discussing the draft Declaration between now and early 2015 We are inviting groups organizations and individuals in Ireland and abroad to engage with the first stage by discussing the draft Declaration internally within organisations campaigns communities and deciding if you want to support it or make changes or even create your own Declaration We are asking then to email your support changes Declaration to Claiming Our Future by January 2015 to info claimingourfuture ie We will launch this part publicly in September this year The second stage is a large participative event in March 2015 where the views of the people that have been gathered in the first stage will be presented debated and discussed and a final Declaration will be agreed The third stage will involve mobilising large scale public support to bring about the New Republic as outlined in the Declaration This will include gathering tens of thousands of signatures from people and organisations in support of the Declaration and various public actions It will also involve a people s commemorative parade in March 2016 building support for the Declaration This will support the Irish people in offering the best commemoration that could be done for the original Proclamation of the first Republic in 1916 a real revolution and radical transformation that creates a real Republic of Equality Social justice democracy and sustainability This is our proposed call to the public to partake in the Declaration To those suffering from austerity and those sickened with what this country has become To those who dream of a fairer Ireland To those who believe that there is another way to achieve a different type of recovery To those who believe that illegitimate banking debt should not be saddled on countries and their people To all those who have been excluded from the Republic To our young people to those who have been forced to leave to the unemployed to our communities who s heart has been broken to our low paid and insecure workers the homeless on our streets in cars hostels To all those devastated by vicious cuts to social welfare especially carers and lone parents To our senior citizens who s hard work built this country but who now have become impoverished or lack basic services To those suffering mortgage stress unable to afford their rent the evicted or facing dispossession of their home to those living in poor housing conditions without community services To those who are

    is getting bigger and bigger While incomes for the top 10 percent of the population grow much faster than for the poorest 10 percent real incomes of those at the bottom have actually fallen Many middle class and low income workers have difficulties to earn enough to cover their expenses for rents mortgages food health insurance and every day expenses while top managers are earning millions In Switzerland the ratio between lowest and highest paid worker in one company is nowadays 1 56 and was in 1984 1 6 in 30 years that is a dramatic change While there are no exact numbers for Ireland these Swiss numbers are indicating the scale of the gap in incomes and the trend for it to get worse How fair is that In Switzerland the young Socialists have tried to tackle this problem politically They campaigned for a 1 12 ratio which means that no one in a company should earn more in one month than the lowest paid employee in one year The campaign succeeded in initiating a referendum on the 1 12 proposition but did not gain the majority in November 2013 However the Swiss campaign has brought the issue of income inequality and a maximum income high on the public agenda not only in Switzerland but also in other European countries such as Spain France and Germany Claiming our Future thinks it is time for the same discussions around income inequalities in Ireland and is inviting the Swiss 1 12 campaign for Fair Pay to Dublin to present their campaign and discuss the possible learnings for Ireland Events Past Events News Other News Calendar QuickView July 2014 M T W T F S S 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16

    deprivation increase every year The economy serves neither society nor the environment Politics has reflected no appetite for transformative change and remains unresponsive to those who experience poverty and inequality Now more than ever we need alternatives Claiming Our Future is a national broad based non party political network made up of individuals and organisations from across civil society We seek to make real the values of equality environmental sustainability participation accountability and solidarity It is time to develop a vision for an alternative Ireland based on these values and to take action to build and demonstrate support for this alternative We hope that the Declaration for a New Republic can re energise and reinvigorate our demands for change and our search for new forms of economy politics and society We are proposing a nationwide process to identify priorities for the future These priorities would be visionary and long term as well as including practical steps to be implemented in the short term In this public meeting we will discuss develop and shape the idea of developing a Declaration for a New Republic What would be the purpose of a Declaration for a New Republic What would it include How would it help or search for alternatives How would we mobilise support for a Declaration for a New Republic How would we organise participative engaging and grass roots level discussions around the country to create its content We look forward to your involvement in this and to building an initiative that can serve change for equality environmental sustainability participation accountability and solidarity in our society Events Past Events News Other News Calendar QuickView June 2014 M T W T F S S 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
