    developed out of current and previous Claiming Our Future initiatives Explore the possibility of establishing a Claiming Our Future Book Club to debate publications of relevance to the work of Claiming Our Future Broker cross sectoral engagement between the different parts of civil society at national and local levels During 2014 this work will have a particular focus on Linkages between global justice and national anti poverty and equality organizations Linkages between trade union and community sector organizations Linkages between environment and community sector organizations A Cross sectoral group drawn from different sectors will develop shared action towards campaigning for Ireland to introduce a Financial Transaction Tax Build links other campaigns networks and social movements that share the value base of Claiming Our Future Support dialogue about values through specific initiatives focused on values and values based work and through a values based approach to implementing the initiatives in this plan Advance Claiming Our Future s work on communication and participation This work is set out separately below The Democracy Working Group will Develop and revise papers on Electoral reform Dail reform and Local Government reform Organise three local meetings on the Local Government reform Develop communication material for the local government reform meetings The Declaration For a New Republic Working group will Develop a Declaration For A New Republic Civil society organizations and individuals will be encouraged to detail their priorities and vision for Ireland from 2016 and beyond These priorities should be visionary and aspirational as well as including practical steps that could be implemented in the short term They should have the CoF values of equality environmental sustainability participation accountability and solidarity at their heart In particular a target number of civil society organizations from different sectors will be asked to support the process by creating opportunities for their members to debate and submit ideas for the Declaration Organise a public deliberative event The aim of this event 1000 participants predicted will be to discuss the draft declaration agree on a final version and develop ideas as to how it can be campaigned for and implemented The Income Equality Working Group will Finalise the exploration of options for an Income Inequality Campaign in preparation for the next General Election Create a cross sectoral Community of Interest around the overarching theme of economic equality identifying shared key policy demands Pursue a campaign on income equality once the focus theme is decided Communication Internal and external communication is a key priority in building Claiming Our Future and in developing an engagement with the ideas of Claiming Our Future Key priorities will be to Disseminate a regular email newsletter Develop the website into a go to website for information on our issues events relevant news etc This will include inputting content regularly Generate more content for our Website and social media The work of the Working Groups will offer particular opportunities for this Develop the website further in terms of participative engagement options for users e g a blog Develop

    campaigns with people from the field of community arts The purpose was to explore how to inject new creativity into civil society campaigning activities This process of exploration and exchange will continue in 2014 A third key action in this regard was to convene a meeting of interested organizations and individuals from across civil society to discuss joint work on the issue of a financial transaction tax The Advocacy Initiative kindly made it possible for Theresa Marshall of the PSI to provide an input to the meeting on the international campaign on this issue This work will continue in 2014 A fourth key action in this regard was to engage with and support the campaign coordinated by Amnesty to get the Constitutional Convention to address the need for a focus on economic and social rights in the Constitution A fifth key action was to contribute to a workshop on The Challenge to Civil Society in the Alternatives for Transformation event in NUI Maynooth which was organized with the participation of Erik Olin Wright Develop approaches to brokering cross sectoral engagement between different parts of civil society at national and local levels One key action in this regard was to convene and facilitate a meeting of leaders from global justice organizations and national anti poverty and equality organizations to discuss links of mutual support and solidarity This process was developed with Dochas and the Wheel and will continue in 2014 A second key action in this regard was to initiate informal exchanges with trade unionists and community sector activists to explore links across these two sectors The Central Group is also responsible for advancing and implementing Claiming Our Future s work on communication and participation This is reported on below The democracy Working Group Organised an event on electoral reform with the National Women s Council of Ireland The agenda developed at this event was submitted as an input to the Constitutional Convention to assist their deliberations on gender equality in political representation Organised an event on Dail reform This was to develop an agenda for Dail reform and to challenge the agenda being put forward by Government in the context of the Seanad referendum Build on the paper on local government prepared to develop a focus on local government reform in 2014 The budget alternatives Working Group Organised a deliberative event in Croke Park in July to discuss budget alternatives and to build the agenda for a campaign on Budget 2014 Campaigned for an alternative budget with a focus on employment stimulus and wealth tax Made links and engaged with the campaigns of other groups seeking budget alternatives The income equality Working Group Prepared a paper drawing together the learning on income equality issues and pointing to a way forward in developing this work This paper with a wide range of useful links is available on the website Convened a meeting of interesting organizations to explore shared concerns in this field to identify key policy demands in relation to income
