  • CIS Volunteers honoured at Annual Award Ceremony
    Centres and these volunteers clocked up an incredible 470 000 hours of volunteering at a purely economic value of over 10 million to the Irish economy Sylda Langford Chair CIB speaking for the last time at the event prior to her retirement said Volunteers are a critical resource to the CISs and bring a diversity and wealth of experience which is as important now as it was 20 years ago when the volunteers who are with us today started giving of their time All contribute to the delivery of a much needed service to the local community She added that This is the fifth time that we have celebrated the contribution of our long standing volunteers from around the country Congratulations are also extended to volunteers with 10 and 5 years service who have been or will be acknowledged at local celebrations around the country This year 40 volunteers will receive certificates for 10 years service and 61 for 5 years service to their local CIS Angela Black Chief Executive CIB thanked both the outgoing Chair Sylda Langford and the volunteers for their service and commitment over the years She also added The National Volunteer Strategy for CISs is now in place supporting the role of volunteers to contribute to an ever changing and expanding service It strengthens the role of volunteers and ensures that they are supported through training and other measures to deliver consistent and high standards in a demanding and complex work environment Michael McGuane Chair NACIS spoke about the importance of the role of volunteers and their pivotal task through the years in ensuring that their local communities especially the vulnerable and socially excluded have access to information on entitlements and services and the assistance needed in securing them Pictured at the volunteer award ceremony were

    Kevin Humphries T D attended the event in the Marino Institute of Education Dublin Guest speakers included Stephen Kinsella Economist University of Limerick Angela Black Chief Executive Michael McQuillan Director of the Business School Ulster University and Karl Cronin Coordinator of Cavan MABS and graduate of the diploma MABS money advisers support people in money management and dealing with difficult debt situations The service is free independent non judgemental and confidential MABS works with a very strong network of other support agencies across the community and works with every major creditor group We re very aware of the need to provide continuous development opportunities to staff and to always build competencies in MABS stated Patrick Power MABS Training and Development Manager This qualification represents the value that we place in providing high quality training and education to our staff We are delighted that it is independently accredited by a recognised third level body such as Ulster University 22 graduates were recognised at the event in Marino The Money Advice and Budgeting Service MABS is funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board Pictured at the celebration of the Advanced Diploma in Money Advice Practice are from left Annmarie O Connor
