  • New Supports for Mortgage Holders in Arrears
    the seminar Angela Black Chief Executive CIB outlined a number of new measures to support mortgage holders who are in arrears including a greater role for MABS Additional services will be provided to ensure that borrowers have access to information on the range of supports and options available advice on the ones most suited to their needs and assistance in pursuing such options where necessary She added The new supports will be rolled out by MABS offices on a phased basis following a process of engagement with the Citizens Information Board CIB and MABS Collete Bennet MABS ndl provided an analysis of the experience of MABS clients with mortgage debt Such debt is also accompanied by other debts and issues which MABS money advice staff work through with clients helping them to come to a resolution that is mutually acceptable affordable and sustainable Colette outlined the MABS ethos in supporting clients to manage their finances and deal with their debt issues as well as setting out the steps involved in the MABS Money Advice process Paul Joyce Senior Policy Analyst with FLAC evaluated the implementation of the Personal Insolvency Act 2012 and tracked the latest figures showing the level of mortgage arrears in Ireland providing analysis and highlighting critical areas of concern Leona McMahon who provides legal advice and information to individuals and families who are in mortgage arrears explained what happens when people are faced with repossession of their home Such possession hearings take place in the District Court and she provided details on this process David Williams Accountant who is also a Personal Insolvency Practitioner PIP and a member of the Financial Information Service Centre FISC at Ennis Citizens Information Centre explained the bankruptcy process and outcomes for someone who is wholly or partially unable to repay their

  • Crumlin Citizens Information Services Celebrates its 40th Anniversary
    and officially opened in 1975 by Mrs Rita Childers the Centre was staffed then by local volunteers In 1993 under the direction of the National Social Services Board now Citizens Information Board a new service was launched by President Mary Robinson The Centre located then at 146 Sundrive Road was firmly established as a major resource covering all of Dublin 12 and surrounding areas During 2009 an outreach service was established in Our Lady s Children s Hospital Crumlin This was and continues to be much appreciated by the Medical Social Work Department in the hospital The service changed its name from Crumlin CIC to Dublin 12 6w CIS and moved to larger more spacious premises located at 8 Sundrive Road in late 2012 Past and present staff attended the celebration Sr Angela Durkin who presided as Chairperson during the developmental stage in the nineties was given a particular mention Speaking at the celebration event Angela Black Chief Executive CIB said You have all created an exemplary information advice and advocacy service in Dublin 12 6W It is a service that has seen much development in recent years particularly with your move to these premises which coincided with the appointment

  • New Threshold Housing Advice Service based in Co. Mayo CIS
    from Castlebar Citizens Information Service will provide tenants with advice on their rights and work with them to solve their housing problems Diarmaid O Sullivan Services Manager with Threshold said that there was a real need for such a service With more people than ever now living in the private rented sector it is essential that tenants are aware of their rights and obligations When tenants encounter problems in their tenancies they need somewhere to turn to for advice Approximately one in five people in Ireland now rent their home Threshold provides advice to tenants on all aspects of renting including rent increases notice of termination illegal eviction deposit retention and issues with repair and maintenance in rented properties The organisation has seen a consistent growth in the demand for its services in the West of Ireland in recent years In 2014 Threshold s Galway office provided advice and support to some 1950 tenants an increase of 10 on the previous year The areas that saw the greatest growth were tenancy termination rent increases and properties going into receivership The private rented sector is facing real challenges at the moment with a shortage of rental accommodation and we are witnessing significant increases in rent levels This is putting a lot of pressure on tenants and it is more important than ever that they get the advice and support they need to enable them to sustain their tenancies said Mr O Sullivan We are delighted to be delivering this outreach service for Co Mayo A trained Threshold Housing Advice Worker will be available to provide advice to tenants on all aspects of housing law he said Teresa Carney Development Manager with Mayo Citizens Information Service agreed that there is a need for comprehensive and quality advice and support in order that

    Find out more Accessibility About Us Services Publications News Contact You Are Here Home News Report On Personal Microloan Scheme Published News 2015 2014 2013 Report on personal microloan scheme published May 2015 A report examining the need for a personal microloan scheme in Ireland has been published by Georges Gloukoviezoff of the UCD Geary Institute The report entitled Creating Credit not Debt takes into account the experience of similar schemes in other jurisdictions The study was jointly funded by the Central Bank of Ireland and the Social Finance Foundation Publication of the Report was welcomed by Angela Black Chief Executive CIB I particularly acknowledge its emphasis on the need to develop a financial model to move people away from dependence on unregulated moneylending through initiatives that have already proven successful in other jurisdictions The Citizens Information Board CIB supports the microloan concept and a paper prepared by CIB was submitted to the Minister for Social Protection and the Minister for Finance proposing the establishment of a microloan scheme for citizens who have difficulty accessing credit CIB along with the Social Finance Foundation and MABS are working together to develop the proposal with the aim of getting Government sign off
