    by the Citizens Information Board and the European Commission Representation in Ireland The leaflets explain how the EU works how decisions are made your rights as an EU citizen and how these rights can be enforced They explain the rights of people who move within the EU and those who move to Ireland Much of the law on consumer protection which applies in Ireland is EU law The full leaflet range is as follows The EU and its citizens pdf How the EU works pdf Moving within the EU pdf The EU s role in social and employment issues pdf The EU and consumers pdf Equality and non discrimination pdf The EU and the environment pdf EU funding pdf The leaflets will be distributed through Citizens Information Services CISs and other information outlets throughout Ireland A list of all CISs and their locations are available at citizensinformation ie The website has a dedicated section on EU government and EU law with additional EU information embedded throughout the site Citizensinformation ie provides comprehensive information on every aspect of living in Ireland and the EU presented clearly simply and effectively It covers a wide range of subjects including employment rights family and health issues moving abroad and education The Citizens Information Board also publishes a quarterly EU Supplement to their Relate journal which focuses on EU developments in social policy consumer policy and citizens rights European Commission Representation in Ireland The European Commission Representation in Ireland is part of the Commission s network of representative offices throughout the Member States of the European Union The offices are located at European Union House 18 Dawson Street Dublin EU House has a public information office open on weekdays from 9 to 5 There is also a citizens advice service on EU law available Pictured

    Publishes information in Transition Report News 2015 2014 2013 Co Wicklow CIS publishes Information in Transition report November 2013 Co Wicklow CIS has published a report looking at the information advice and advocacy needs of older people in the Wicklow area and in particular the needs of isolated or less connected older people Funded by a social policy grant from the Citizens Information Board the report found that social welfare health consumer housing bereavement and caring issues were among the most sought after topics by older people Other issues include voluntary work legal questions security home heating and recreation queries The report Information in Transition the Information Advice and Advocacy Needs of Older People in the Technology and Information Age found that older people rely heavily on friends and family and their close social network for their information needs Their local Citizens Information Centre was also an important source Trusted intermediaries individuals community groups and statutory organisations working with older people are also significant particularly for older people who are more isolated Older people also show a preference for face to face information provision Barriers to accessing information include automated telephone systems and online information lack of awareness of entitlements

  • Citizens Information visit to the EU Commission
    EURES provides information advice and recruitment placement job matching services for the benefit of workers and employers as well as any citizen wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons Other presentations on day one included a presentation by Martina Andra Kaut on the Europe Direct Network and the EU Citizenship Report by Nathalie Stockwell The European Year of Citizens 2013 and Youth in Action were further themes explored Day two included a visit to the very interesting EU Parliament museum called the Parlamentarium This Visitors Centre caters for children and adults alike who get to discover more about the institution that represents them Dynamic interactive multimedia displays guide visitors through the journey of European integration and the impact this has on everyday lives The Centre caters to all 24 official languages of the European Union and admission is free This was followed by an in depth look at the workings of the European Parliament presented by Sarah Shiel Directorate for the Library and Document Management and the programme concluded with a presentation on the work of the Europe Direct Contact Centre which is a call centre dealing with general questions relating to the EU A number of useful EU information resources were highlighted during the visit and some links are given below http europa eu index en htm https ec europa eu eures home jsp lang en http ec europa eu ireland eu services in ireland europe direct centres index en htm http europa eu europedirect index en htm Representatives from the following Citizens Information services took part Meath CIS Co Wicklow CIS Dublin North West CIS Fingal CIS Dublin City Centre CIS Carlow CIS Clare CIS Ballyfermot CIS Roscommon CIS Dublin 12 6W CIS Waterford CIS and the Citizens Information Phone Service CIPS Five

  • New Resource - Information Provider's Guide to Drug and Alcohol Related Queries
    assist them in dealing with queries relating to drug alcohol misuse has been launched by Alex White TD Minister of State at the Department of Health The guide is the result of a collaboration between Community Awareness of Drugs CAD The North Dublin City and County Regional Drugs Task Force and the Citizen Information Board and its network of Citizens Information Services Launching the guide the Minister said the document will act as an important reference guide for the Citizen Information Services and also for addiction service professionals allowing them to respond to queries related to drugs and alcohol in a timely effective and responsible manner The resource was compiled as part of a training initiative for Information Providers in Citizens Information Services in dealing with drug alcohol related queries The training was developed by Community Awareness of Drugs together with the project partners It has been running since 2007 has resulted in 146 Information Providers being trained to date CAD Co ordinator Bernie McDonnell spoke of how important it was to upskill Information Providers Someone could come in to a Citizens Information Centre who might have a tenancy problem but an underlying substance use issue could be ignored were

  • Overcoming Illegal Debt - National Traveller MABS launch education resource
    the event Chair of the Citizens Information Board Ms Sylda Langford said I congratulate National Traveller MABS for hosting this seminar and developing this money management resource It provides another important building block in cross agency efforts to tackle illegal moneylending and reverse the damage it continues to cause in the most vulnerable communities She added It highlights the difficulties and concerns for low income households in accessing mainstream credit due to over indebtedness Commenting on the launch Karen O Leary Chief Executive of the National Consumer Agency said The National Consumer Agency is delighted to be partnering with National Traveller MABS on this project This resource is important in tackling an area of financial detriment that has serious and sometimes dangerous consequences for people The launch occurred during a seminar on Illegal Moneylending hosted by National Traveller MABS The seminar aimed to Highlight the issue of illegal moneylending among service providers working with low income groups Promote services and supports that support individuals who are at risk borrowing or have borrowed from an illegal moneylender Identify sustainable solutions Other contributors to the seminar included Labour Party T D Aodhán O Ríordáin Detective Sergeant Ronan Joyce from An Garda Síochána Joe Nevin from Sligo MABS Elizabeth Foster from Inchicore Credit Union and the Thomas McCann Director of the Traveller Counselling Service Some of the main recommendations put forward included the establishment of a government interdepartmental working group which would sit with MABS social finance agencies the Saint Vincent de Paul and related bodies to begin to address the issue of illegal moneylending In addition to the importance of such a group examining existing legislation in this area focus was also placed on the necessity for ensuring access to affordable and legal credit was available to people on low income National
