  • Irish and Chinese governments to co-finance new building for UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland
    new building for the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland at the Ireland Pavilion in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai The governments of the Republic of Ireland and the People s Republic of China have agreed to co finance a new flagship building for the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland at University College Dublin The agreement was signed during the official visit to Ireland of His Excellency Mr Li Changchun Member of the Standing Committee of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China The UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland was established in 2006 and in their initial stages has been operating from within the Quinn School of Business on the main UCD campus at Belfield To support continued growth and the strategic development of the Institute it is proposed that it be accommodated in a new purpose built facility the UCD Confucius Centre The proposed new facility comprises A floor area of 2 000 square meters A National Resource Centre for Chinese studies A lecture theatre accommodating up to 120 students A range of classrooms and seminar rooms Multi media language class room facilities Study space for masters PhDs and post doctoral students Distance learning and computer facilities and Office space for academic staff administration staff and visiting staff It is proposed that the new building will also accommodate the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies a UCD education unit that complements the Confucius Institute thereby enabling the successful partnership between the two units to continue to flourish The new building will therefore host a range of academic activities including teaching and research executive courses cultural events and will provide a national resource centre for students staff and third parties who wish to learn about the People s Republic of China and do business with that country

  • Confucius PhD Forum
    Forum formerly known as UCD James Joyce PhD Forum was established in 2008 It is the leading academic and social organization for Chinese Irish as well as international researchers and students who are living in Ireland With substantial support from the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and other organizations the Forum has grown from strength to strength Members are now including universities faculty staff and PhD students from University College Dublin Trinity College Dublin Dublin City University Dublin Institute of Technology University College Cork and Queen s University Belfast to name a few What We Do Over the past 5 years several research seminars have been organized by the Forum which covered a range of academic disciplines such as business and economics law and politics civil engineering biology and health science Other social events have been participated and organized by the Forum s members include Chinese student orientations social networking receptions sport games as well as GO competitions When and Where We Meet The Confucius Forum is a monthly event which is hosted by different third level institutions in Dublin Although members are mainly research faculties and PhD students the participation of undergraduate and postgraduate students are welcomed The Forum takes the format of research seminars Two research topics will be selected and presented in English each time followed by Q A As we are experiencing significant expansion in terms of participants geographical coverage and variety of research topics proposals with regards to reform of the Forum s format and content are particularly welcomed Please see us on Facebook for specific meeting time and venue Contact Us Should you be interested to join us or have other inquiries please do not hesitate to contact us by email This email address is being protected from spambots You need JavaScript enabled to
