  • Spring Festival Gala 2016
    Year of the Monkey and the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy will be hosting a Spring Festival Gala in the Convention Centre Dublin on February 18 th Please join us for the celebration from 7 00pm to 9 30pm The Spring Festival Gala to celebrate the Chinese New Year has become a popular annual event and a showcase for cultural diversity which provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate traditional Chinese culture as well as to celebrate the Chinese New Year with both Irish and Chinese We are delighted to present this event with special guest appearance by China National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre Opera Troupe whilst the students from UCD Confucius Institute will also perform in the Gala Furthermore the acoustics in the Convention Centre should enhance this special performance Admission is free The tickets will be available for collection on a first come first serve basis since February 8 th from our I nstitute If you have any other inquiries please contact This email address is being protected from spambots You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 017163000 for further information Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close

  • Volunteer Chinese Teachers from Two Confucius Institutes in Ireland Share Teaching Experience
    Teaching Experience on January 31 2016 Present at the seminar were Mr Xiaochuang Wu First Secretary of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland Mr Changlin Gao First Secretary of the Science and Technology Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland and Chinese Directors of the two above mentioned Confucius Institutes The seminar is composed of two parts class teaching demonstration and experience sharing In the first part 8 volunteer Chinese teachers from both Confucius Institutes demonstrated their unique class teaching designs and methods based on their first 6 months teaching experience For instance they prepared an array of cultural knowledge incorporated fun games such as action upon instructions and picture drawing in teaching numbers body parts and food In the second part the volunteer teachers shared their experience in the strategies and techniques they adopted in teaching Chinese language and culture to Irish primary and post primary schools Mr Xiaochuang Wu First Secretary of the Education Section remarked that the Confucius Institute is the bridge to all the destination countries that the volunteer teachers are the goodwill ambassadors linking China with the rest of the world He hoped that such seminars for teaching experience sharing will help volunteer teachers improve their teaching Volunteer teachers make up a significant part of the whole teaching staff in both Confucius Institutes They are currently teaching Chinese language and culture in over 160 Irish secondary schools By co hosting such seminars the two Confucius Institutes not only share their teaching resources but more importantly make mutual efforts on exploring Chinese teaching methods suited to the local Irish context Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar for CII UCD Confucius Institute organised its first Chinese

  • The Launch of Dublin Confucius Classroom for Children at UCD

  • 29th ‘Confucius PhD Students Forum’ Held at UCD
    from UCD Smurfit Business School and Mr Yu Zhongyi a PhD student from UCD Centre for Food Safety delivered penetrating lectures entitled Network Governance in Two sided Platforms and What we talk about when we talk about food safety respectively This forum was hosted by UCD Confucius Institute in conjunction with UCD Chinese Students and Scholars Association Prof Patrick Wall a food safety expert attended this forum as well as over 60 students and scholars Mr Wei Ruiqi shared his insights on internet platform governance In Mr Wei s view for both the B to C market mechanism which is highlighted by non rational consumption behavior and the B to B market mechanism which lays more emphasis on rational choice the networks play a vital role in influencing the effectiveness of governance mechanisms At present as the representatives of attaching importance to networks Alibaba and Uber have already entered the era of multi sided platforms According to Mr Wei the solid financial supports and huge members networks are crucial for building up multi sided platforms Moreover a qualified multi sided platform should transform either production platform or transaction platform to innovation platform Mr Yu Zhongyi s lecture shed light on the problems of food safety based on his many years of practical experiences and scientific research in the area of food safety He believes that the whole world not just China is facing difficulties in solving the problems of food safety These difficulties would include the limitedness of laboratory testing the difficulty of tracing food origins the low quality of food producers etc In order to overcome these difficulties in tackling these issues all parties including food safety experts and ordinary consumers should work together and strengthen collaborations Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer

  • UCD Confucius Institute organized the Winter Camp for Irish Secondary School Students
    3 Irish teachers visited Beijing and participated into the two week winter camp of exploring Chinese culture running from 19 th of October to 30 th of October 35 out of 39 students are from Teresian School 3 of them are from Sutton Park School and the other one is from Dundalk Grammer School In cooperation with these three schools UCD Confucius Institute has been delivering Chinese courses to their students As an important agenda of this winter camp the Irish students visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters Hanban Renmin University of China Xi an Gaoxin No 1 high school and Beijing No 9 high school which has substantially enhanced their understanding of the Chinese educational system as well as Chinese students During the winter camp the students not only engaged with cultural activities like watching the performances of Chinese Kongfu and acrobatics but also visited many places of historical and cultural interests such as Tiananmen Square the Forbidden City the Great Wall Yonghe Temple Terracotta Army Huaqing Pool Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Xi an Beilin Museum and Fortifications of Xi an etc By means of these first hand cultural experiences in Beijing and Xi an the students have enriched their knowledge of China in many aspects Chinese history and culture traditional and contemporary Chinese architectural art Chinese cuisine campus activities Chinese martial arts etc Moreover the students from Ireland and China have forged a friendship with each other during this camp The Irish students also showed their enthusiasm for learning Chinese language and culture Many of the Irish students hoped to visit China again with their families and friends Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar for CII UCD Confucius Institute organised its

  • UCD Confucius Institute Welcomed the Delegation from Fudan University
    International Cultural Exchange School a total of seventeen delegates paid a one day visit to UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland A meeting was held in the Institute to share insights on how to promote Chinese language and culture and the development of the Confucius Institute worldwide Prof Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute Prof Yongqiang Cai Chinese Director and teacher representatives from the Institute attended the meeting At the meeting in the morning representatives from both sides shared their views and insights with regard to the sustainable development of the Confucius Institute the promotion of Chinese language in Irish primary schools secondary schools and kindergartens as well as the establishment and management of Confucius Classrooms The meeting was very informative and productive In the afternoon a public lecture was held by UCD Confucius Institute on Belfield campus The keynote speaker Prof Shen Dingli delivered a lecture entitled Transition of Chinese Foreign Policy Under Xi Framework and Approach According to Prof Shen a rising China with strong momentum in economic growth has brought about more opportunities to the rest of the world Meanwhile China s rise has also altered the geo economic and the geo political balance of power in the world For example the initiatives of AIIB and the One Belt One Road The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st century Maritime Silk Road program offer the future prospects of a better connected Eurasian continent This would affect the management of the global commons which needs to reconcile with the concerns of the others The lecture was followed up with a question and answer session and more than 100 audience attended this public lecture Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar
