  • UCD Confucius Institute organized the Winter Camp for Irish Secondary School Students
    from 19 th of October to 30 th of October 35 out of 39 students are from Teresian School 3 of them are from Sutton Park School and the other one is from Dundalk Grammer School In cooperation with these three schools UCD Confucius Institute has been delivering Chinese courses to their students As an important agenda of this winter camp the Irish students visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters Hanban Renmin University of China Xi an Gaoxin No 1 high school and Beijing No 9 high school which has substantially enhanced their understanding of the Chinese educational system as well as Chinese students During the winter camp the students not only engaged with cultural activities like watching the performances of Chinese Kongfu and acrobatics but also visited many places of historical and cultural interests such as Tiananmen Square the Forbidden City the Great Wall Yonghe Temple Terracotta Army Huaqing Pool Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Xi an Beilin Museum and Fortifications of Xi an etc By means of these first hand cultural experiences in Beijing and Xi an the students have enriched their knowledge of China in many aspects Chinese history and culture traditional and contemporary Chinese architectural art Chinese cuisine

  • 29th ‘Confucius PhD Students Forum’ Held at UCD
    lectures entitled Network Governance in Two sided Platforms and What we talk about when we talk about food safety respectively This forum was hosted by UCD Confucius Institute in conjunction with UCD Chinese Students and Scholars Association Prof Patrick Wall a food safety expert attended this forum as well as over 60 students and scholars Mr Wei Ruiqi shared his insights on internet platform governance In Mr Wei s view for both the B to C market mechanism which is highlighted by non rational consumption behavior and the B to B market mechanism which lays more emphasis on rational choice the networks play a vital role in influencing the effectiveness of governance mechanisms At present as the representatives of attaching importance to networks Alibaba and Uber have already entered the era of multi sided platforms According to Mr Wei the solid financial supports and huge members networks are crucial for building up multi sided platforms Moreover a qualified multi sided platform should transform either production platform or transaction platform to innovation platform Mr Yu Zhongyi s lecture shed light on the problems of food safety based on his many years of practical experiences and scientific research in the area of

    Ireland A meeting was held in the Institute to share insights on how to promote Chinese language and culture and the development of the Confucius Institute worldwide Prof Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute Prof Yongqiang Cai Chinese Director and teacher representatives from the Institute attended the meeting At the meeting in the morning representatives from both sides shared their views and insights with regard to the sustainable development of the Confucius Institute the promotion of Chinese language in Irish primary schools secondary schools and kindergartens as well as the establishment and management of Confucius Classrooms The meeting was very informative and productive In the afternoon a public lecture was held by UCD Confucius Institute on Belfield campus The keynote speaker Prof Shen Dingli delivered a lecture entitled Transition of Chinese Foreign Policy Under Xi Framework and Approach According to Prof Shen a rising China with strong momentum in economic growth has brought about more opportunities to the rest of the world Meanwhile China s rise has also altered the geo economic and the geo political balance of power in the world For example the initiatives of AIIB and the One Belt One Road The Silk Road Economic Belt

  • Launch of Confucius Classroom and the Open Day of Chinese Culture at Galway Education Centre
    Culture at Galway Education Centre H E Mr Xu Jianguo Chinese Ambassador to Ireland Councillor Frank Fahy the Mayor of Galway and Prof Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland attended this event and addressed the audience Ambassador Xu extended his congratulations on the launch of the first Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre in Galway and furthermore expressed his gratefulness to Galway Education Centre for their tremendous efforts and contributions in promoting Chinese language and culture Ambassador Xu believes that the newly established Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre will be developing stronger links between China and Ireland and enhancing understanding between Chinese people and Irish people Councillor Frank Fahy the Mayor of Galway also praised the achievements of Galway Education Centre in hosting a wide range of Chinese culture activities with the strong endorsement given by UCD Confucius Institute Under the discourse of multiculturalism the newly launched Confucius Classroom should be expected to host even more cultural events and activities in Galway Prof Liming Wang emphasized the important role of the Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre by saying that it will bring more opportunities along with more convenience to people with strong interests in learning Chinese language and culture The Classroom will be the focal point for promoting Chinese language and culture in the west part of Ireland On the day of the launch the Chinese teachers from UCD Confucius Institute also arranged a series of cultural workshops and hence engaged the local people at Galway to take part in a wide range of cultural activities in person such as Chinese calligraphy Guzheng traditional Chinese instrument performance Chinese tea ceremony Taiji and paper cutting etc Councilor Frank Fahy and some local audience also participated into the teaching demo for Chinese language class as well as

    headed by Prof Liu Wei Vice President of BLCU visited UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland A meeting was held in the Institute to explore possibilities of establishing links and cooperation in the areas such as Chinese language teaching teacher training programme and degree programmes Prof Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute Prof Yongqiang Cai Chinese Director and teacher representatives from the Institute attended the meeting Prof Liu Wei praised the significant achievements of UCD Confucius Institute particularly its variety of activities and events were attended by local ordinary people as well as senior Chinese leaders The BLCU meanwhile has become an important focal base for promoting both Chinese language and culture with the total of over 180 000 graduated oversea students up till now By virtue of further cooperation between UCD Confucius Institute and BLCU the development of Chinese language teaching and promotion should embrace a faster growth in Ireland Prof Lixia Chen Division Director of Confucius Institute at BLCU and Prof Yue Mao Vice Director of Faculty of International Education of Chinese Language made a brief introduction to recent researches and development of BLCU on teacher training teaching materials and international students training programme The localization of Chinese textbook and the promotion of Chinese language and culture at Irish secondary schools have been also discussed at the meeting Given the remarkable role that BLCU has played in both teaching and research in the area of teaching Chinese as a foreign language Prof Wang reinforced the necessities of strengthen ties between two sides In the aspects of developing localised teaching materials teacher training programme and degree programmes UCD Confucius Institute will benefit enormously from the collaboration with the BLCU which should propel the development of teaching Chinese language and culture in Ireland to a higher level Prev Next Thanks
