  • China Folk Art Overseas Tour launched by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland
    highly entertaining audio visual feast In attendance were the Chinese Ambassador to Ireland H E Xu Jianguo and his wife Ms Ni Jun UCD President Professor Andrew Deeks and his wife Dr Linda Deeks as well as members of the local Chinese community The gala was co hosted by the eternally youthful Sister Ju Ping crosstalk master Dai Zhicheng and Li Xiaodong from UCD Confucius Institute The show opened with Granny s Visit to the Lantern Show created by Wang Zhanxin who is known as the No 1 artist in the Great River Bend Hetao He showcased the magic of the regional art form er ren tai singer Yang Fei amazingly performed her vocal act while holding burning candles in her mouth Ding Dang s Sichuan comic show My Future isn t a Dream was filled with local humour and twin brothers Liu Quanli and Liu Quanhe charmed the audience with their interactive mime Bird and Bee Crosstalk duo Jiang Kun and Dai Zhicheng had the audience laughing out loud throughout their classic piece Joy and a piece about learning Cantonese Soprano Yin Xiumei enchanted the audience with her classics Song of Chang Jiang I Love You the Northern Snow and In the Field of Hope The gala ended with a lovely rendition of See You in Twenty Years by Yin Xiumei and young tenor Wang Zenan The 100 minute show was filled with excitement and enchantment Ambassador Xu and President Deeks were invited on to the stage for a lucky draw They presented prizes to winning audience members including a Confucius Institute T shirt signed by all the gala artists and a Chinese calligraphy piece by crosstalk master Jiang Kun titled Auspicious The gala was fantastic I look forward to similar performances in the near future said an Irish

  • The 14th 'Chinese Bridge' Chinese Proficiency Competition for Irish College Students a Resounding Success
    UCD Mr Wu Xiaochuang First Secretary education in the Chinese Embassy of Ireland Prof Dorothy Kenny Head of School in the School of Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies at DCU and finally the Chinese directors of both Confucius Institutes in Ireland After the first round of the competition which was held in the morning 8 contestants entered the second and final round of the competition which decided the winners of the 1st Prize two 2nd Prizes and three 3rd Prizes two Commendation Prizes one Best Cultural Performance Prize and one Culture Knowledge Quiz Prize Students from the UCD Confucius Institute team took the top two prizes successfully defending its champion title in Ireland All top three prize winners will represent Irish college students and participate at the final Chinese Bridge competition in China The speeches and talent performances in the competition were focused on the theme My Chinese Dream The contestants fluent and impressive Chinese speeches and talented performances based on Chinese culture illustrated clearly each individual s vision of their beautiful Chinese dreams The intoxicating Guzheng performance Fishing Boats at Dusk and Chinese traditional music Moon Chasing Clouds won much applause from the audience other performances such as Chinese calligraphy Chinese pop songs and stand up comedy in Chinese also showed their love and deep understanding of Chinese culture Prof Andrew Deeks the President of UCD stated in his speech that UCD is very proud of its Confucius Institute and its students He also encouraged the students to keep up the good work in learning Chinese H E Mr Xu Jianguo pointed out in his closing speech that Language is a bridge connecting souls one must learn Chinese to understand China As the Chinese economy continuously develops the Chinese language will become more and more important and learning Chinese

  • The UCD CI defends its Championship title in the 8th CHINESE BRIDGE Chinese Proficiency Competition for secondary school students in Ireland
    at Cork City Council Yang Zhijun First Secretary Science and Technology of the Chinese Embassy to Ireland Huang Fei First Secretary Culture of the Chinese Embassy to Ireland and Tony Walsh Principal of Mayfield Community School Chinese Directors of both Irish Confucius Institutes UCC and UCD also attended the competition Contestants outdid themselves and impressed the audience during the three sections which included a Chinese Speech a Talent Show and a Quiz Eight contestants sent by the UCD Confucius Institute performed exceptionally well during the competition One of the Contestants Fionn McGowan spoke eloquently in fluent Chinese with a perfect Beijing accent of his experience studying and living in Beijing His wit and perfect pronunciation greatly impressed the audience and judges The next Contestant Roisin Hiney performed a Chinese song When You Have Come of an Old Age lyrics written by a known poet Ye Zhi with a harp such emotional singing certainly resonated with the audience When brothers Jack and Luke performed together the National Anthem of China and a Chinese traditional tune Jasmine with their Irish Clarinet and Keyboard the audience felt compelled to sing along with the music The Awards for this competition were awarded as follows There was one first prize two second prizes and three third prizes Each prize was won by a contestant from the UCD Confucius Institute team Fionn McGowan won the championship Roisin Hiney and Jack Nolan won the second and third prize respectively They are going to represent Ireland in the final competition in China The UCD Confucius Institute has established 55 Chinese classrooms including 8 affiliated Confucius Classrooms in the process of promoting Chinese language and culture It is expected that this Chinese Bridge competition will encourage the interest of Irish Secondary students to learn Chinese language and culture going

  • UCD Confucius Institute held the first working meeting for Confucius Classrooms
    local communities UCD Confucius Institute hosted its first working meeting for Confucius Classrooms on 26th of March 2016 The total of fifteen people including directors and teacher representatives from UCD Confucius Institute principles and coordinators in charge of the Confucius Classrooms attended the meeting The delegates studied and discussed the Hanban documents Application Guidelines for Confucius Classroom Programs and Funding and Agreement on the Establishment of the Confucius Classrooms to be signed between the Confucius Institute and local secondary schools Professor Liming Wang gave a presentation on how Confucius Classrooms apply for annual funding and projects from the Confucius Institute Headquarters followed by a thorough and constructive discussion on the draft agreement between CI and Confucius Classrooms Principles and coordinators stated that they have had better understanding on the operation and obligations of Confucius Classrooms through discussion at the meeting and will sign the agreement soon Professor Liming Wang also presented the progress of the New Building of Model Confucius Institute Then the principles and coordinators shared their experience in operating Confucius Classrooms Since 2010 when the first Confucius Classroom was established UCD Confucius Institute has now set up eight Confucius Classrooms in total In order to strengthen the management and promotion of Confucius Classrooms UCD Confucius Institute has currently set a special column on its website www cii ie The success of this working meeting lies in a better understanding between UCD Confucius Institute and its Confucius Classrooms on entitlements and responsibilities of both parties It has laid down a solid foundation for further cooperation with Confucius Classrooms and more effective operation Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar for CII UCD Confucius Institute organised its first Chinese Exam Winter Camp Launch

    was essential to promote our affinity with Chinese to the public Music crafts and dress were included in this very popular attraction The feedback received from parents in the local community was highly encouraging In Jesus and Mary College we constantly consider and reflect on the contribution Chinese Culture and Language Studies has made to the education of our students In our self evaluation we continue to look for ways to improve what we offer We look forward to working with the Confucius Institute to achieve this aim Confucius Classroom at Galway Eduacation Centre since 2014 In Confucius Classroom By Super User Feb 27 2015 The Galway Education Centre has over 20 years experience of International cooperative programmes and provides training programmes for teachers in County Galway and throughout Ireland Global partners of the Galway Education Centre include the UCD Confucius Institute National Flight Academy Florida TEQ Games Universal Studios Office of EU Commissioner for Research and Science British Science Association Emory University Atlanta and Indiana University In addition the centre has working partnerships with Medtronic Philanthropy USA SAP in France HP Boston Scientific and LEGO Education in Denmark For over 15 years the centre has become one of the leading examples in relation to organising cooperative programmes between educational institutes and entrepreneurs In December 2012 the UCD CII regional centre in the Galway Education Centre was launched officially Mr Ciaran Cannon Jr Minister of Education in Ireland and Mr Xiaochuang Wu first secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland attended the event Since then the Galway Education Centre cooperated with the UCD CII and developed the training programs for Irish teachers At the end of 2013 there are 11 secondary schools in Galway launching Chinese classes and 4 sessions of Irish teachers training programmes with more than 50 Irish teachers enrolled Through the training programme 14 Irish teachers started to teach Chinese language and culture on their own Confucius Classroom at Loreto Foxrock since 2011 In Confucius Classroom By Super User Feb 11 2015 Loreto College Foxrock is a voluntary Catholic Secondary School under the direction of the Loreto Sisters IBVM The school which wasopened in 1941 at the request of the Archbishop of Dublin Most Reverend John Charles McQuaid is situated on the N11 in the parish of Foxrock The school is a fee paying Secondary Day School and is run by the Board of Management which was first set up in 1990 The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1991 The main aim of the school is to be a centre of Christian Education which cares for the faith and personal development of each student The school strives for excellence in providing a holistic education i e religious academic cultural physical psychological and social The school has maintained the educational tradition begun by Mary Ward 1585 1645 foundress of the I B V M and has been enriched by it During the school year 2009 2010 the school Principal explored the option of offering a programme of
