  • UCD Confucius Institute organized the Winter Camp for Irish Secondary School Students
    3 Irish teachers visited Beijing and participated into the two week winter camp of exploring Chinese culture running from 19 th of October to 30 th of October 35 out of 39 students are from Teresian School 3 of them are from Sutton Park School and the other one is from Dundalk Grammer School In cooperation with these three schools UCD Confucius Institute has been delivering Chinese courses to their students As an important agenda of this winter camp the Irish students visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters Hanban Renmin University of China Xi an Gaoxin No 1 high school and Beijing No 9 high school which has substantially enhanced their understanding of the Chinese educational system as well as Chinese students During the winter camp the students not only engaged with cultural activities like watching the performances of Chinese Kongfu and acrobatics but also visited many places of historical and cultural interests such as Tiananmen Square the Forbidden City the Great Wall Yonghe Temple Terracotta Army Huaqing Pool Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Xi an Beilin Museum and Fortifications of Xi an etc By means of these first hand cultural experiences in Beijing and Xi an the students have enriched their knowledge of China in many aspects Chinese history and culture traditional and contemporary Chinese architectural art Chinese cuisine campus activities Chinese martial arts etc Moreover the students from Ireland and China have forged a friendship with each other during this camp The Irish students also showed their enthusiasm for learning Chinese language and culture Many of the Irish students hoped to visit China again with their families and friends Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar for CII UCD Confucius Institute organised its

  • UCD Confucius Institute Welcomed the Delegation from Fudan University
    International Cultural Exchange School a total of seventeen delegates paid a one day visit to UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland A meeting was held in the Institute to share insights on how to promote Chinese language and culture and the development of the Confucius Institute worldwide Prof Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute Prof Yongqiang Cai Chinese Director and teacher representatives from the Institute attended the meeting At the meeting in the morning representatives from both sides shared their views and insights with regard to the sustainable development of the Confucius Institute the promotion of Chinese language in Irish primary schools secondary schools and kindergartens as well as the establishment and management of Confucius Classrooms The meeting was very informative and productive In the afternoon a public lecture was held by UCD Confucius Institute on Belfield campus The keynote speaker Prof Shen Dingli delivered a lecture entitled Transition of Chinese Foreign Policy Under Xi Framework and Approach According to Prof Shen a rising China with strong momentum in economic growth has brought about more opportunities to the rest of the world Meanwhile China s rise has also altered the geo economic and the geo political balance of power in the world For example the initiatives of AIIB and the One Belt One Road The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st century Maritime Silk Road program offer the future prospects of a better connected Eurasian continent This would affect the management of the global commons which needs to reconcile with the concerns of the others The lecture was followed up with a question and answer session and more than 100 audience attended this public lecture Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar

  • Launch of Confucius Classroom and the Open Day of Chinese Culture at Galway Education Centre
    Liming Wang Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland attended this event and addressed the audience Ambassador Xu extended his congratulations on the launch of the first Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre in Galway and furthermore expressed his gratefulness to Galway Education Centre for their tremendous efforts and contributions in promoting Chinese language and culture Ambassador Xu believes that the newly established Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre will be developing stronger links between China and Ireland and enhancing understanding between Chinese people and Irish people Councillor Frank Fahy the Mayor of Galway also praised the achievements of Galway Education Centre in hosting a wide range of Chinese culture activities with the strong endorsement given by UCD Confucius Institute Under the discourse of multiculturalism the newly launched Confucius Classroom should be expected to host even more cultural events and activities in Galway Prof Liming Wang emphasized the important role of the Confucius Classroom at Galway Education Centre by saying that it will bring more opportunities along with more convenience to people with strong interests in learning Chinese language and culture The Classroom will be the focal point for promoting Chinese language and culture in the west part of Ireland On the day of the launch the Chinese teachers from UCD Confucius Institute also arranged a series of cultural workshops and hence engaged the local people at Galway to take part in a wide range of cultural activities in person such as Chinese calligraphy Guzheng traditional Chinese instrument performance Chinese tea ceremony Taiji and paper cutting etc Councilor Frank Fahy and some local audience also participated into the teaching demo for Chinese language class as well as practicing how to express greetings in Chinese Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD

  • 28th 'Confucius PhD Students Forum' Held at UCD
    Dr Hongju He from School of Biosystems and Food Engineering delivered inspiring lectures entitled The Essence of a PhD Tips to surviving and thriving in your PhD and How to Get a PhD Degree with Outstanding Performances respectively More than 100 scholars and students attended the forum Prof Wang started his lecture by presenting the definition origin and translation of Doctor of Philosophy Ph D in both China and the West This was followed by illustrating some tips and advice on how to nurture a fruitful academic life through out four years of a Ph D programme He further shared his personal experiences from four aspects of doing a Ph D programme i e selecting topic research publications and networking An analogy was drawn between the four aspects of doing a Ph D and a four wheel drive vehicle Finally Prof Wang encouraged students to become not only a Ph D with specialised knowledge yuanshi but also broader sense of knowledge and culture boshi The forum also invited Dr Hongju Heto share his own research experiences during four years of his Ph D programme with audiences As a newly awarded Ph D Dr He provide the audience with some helpful and practical information and approaches about how to succeed in Ph D studies with more achievements A question and answer session was followed by the lectures which stimulated audiences enormous interests The atmosphere of discussion on the topics was hot and friendly At the end of the forum Ms Ke Hu a first year Ph D candidate from Dublin City University said that she was enlighten by the talks and benefited a lot from the forum Thanks for sharing About The Author Super User Close Related Articles Volunteer Chinese Teachers from UCD CI Participate in the Collaborative Teaching Experience Seminar
