    Multinationals Local Tidy Towns Tidy Towns Committee Contact Us Contact Form Location Find out what s on this month Bring a trowel and do some digging Article Added 22 04 2012 Excavation at Rathnadrinna Fort Cashel Co Tipperary Rathnadrinna Fort is the largest and best preserved of Cashel s forts and research here presents an ideal opportunity to learn more about the evolution and function of such sites in a royal landscape Cashel of the Kings From the seventh century AD Cashel was synomonous with the Eóganacht dynasty and later still the Dal gCais and the McCarthy s until the late twelfth century Rathnadrinna may be one of the inauguration sites of the Kings of Cashel and Munster The excuiting Rathnadrinna excavation will run for eight weeks from 11th June to 3rd August 2012 We are looking for volunteers to come and dig at the site under the guidance of a team of very experienced professional archaeologists The volunteers must be able to commit for a minimum period of one week but can stay for the entire season if they wish The only other requirements for volunteers is that they must be 18 years or older and they must provide

    CHRISTMAS LIGHTS Article Added 15 04 2012 The Cashel Chamber of Commerce will host a public consultation on the town s Christmas lights on Wednesday 18th of April in the Brian Boru pub from 6 pm onwards with the formal part of the evening starting at 6 30 pm Tea coffee and sandwiches will be provided for all attendees on the evening Chamber President Sean Laffey said It might seem very early to be talking about the town s Christmas lights but in fact if we are to improve on the show in 2011 we have to start as soon as possible The meeting will consider such issues as the type of lights people want in the town the technical feasibility of changing the lighting pattern and of course the cost implications The last time the lights were re vamped the Chamber received a very generous grant from the South Tipperary Enterprise Board in today s recession we are unlikely to get a similar subvention so it will be up to the Chamber and the Community to pull together to fund raise to bring back the sparkle to town next Christmas All chamber members and especially those with retail business

    IT Services and Support Health and Fitness Opticians Marketing Education Industry Multinationals Local Tidy Towns Tidy Towns Committee Contact Us Contact Form Location Find out what s on this month NEW TOURISM VENTURE TAKES THE REINS Article Added 15 04 2012 The clip clop of horses hooves will soon be a familiar sound in Cashel as a new Carriage service is set to operate from the Rock from the 1st of May It s a new venture from entrepreneurs PJ Quinlan and Sean Laffey who have been riding around town of late in two beautiful carriages The scheme is backed by South Tipperary Development Board P J Quinlan explained that tours take 25 minutes each and show visitors many of the historic sites in the town such as the Famine wall in Ladyswell the Parish church which is on the site of the medieval friary St John s Cathedral and a spin out to Hoare Abbey We know from our research that visitors want to meet locals and get a flavour of the town from real people each driver will be specially trained as a tour guide so that the trips on the carriages will be both fun and informative

    differently and what cost implications this would have to the Chamber A number of fund raising activities were discussed as it wasn t felt right that the burden of new lights should come solely from member s subscriptions The forthcoming St Patrick s Parade was a key item and as it is on a Saturday this year it will be a challenge for retailers With afternoon road closures and traffic restrictions the morning is the best time to get your shopping done in town Cashel will be open for business on the day some shops of course will take the holiday especially business owners whose children are taking part in the Parade Patrons are advised to enquire in the shops during the week to make sure they will be open for part of the day on Saturday 17th of March and shop before 11 30am if you can Dr Niall Gregory told the meeting he was part of an EU Rural Charter delegation to a meeting in Hungary which will run from the 22nd to 25th of March The Chamber wished him well in this regard and hoped that he might use some of his time to check out business opportunities Niall said that although the focus of the Hungarian meeting was on the role of the elderly in rural communities he had initiated contact with the Ireland Hungary Business forum in Dublin and was hopeful that these could lead to some beneficial contacts being made during the March event Sean Laffey re iterated his call for a fuller involvement in the community from the businesses in town At a fundamental level every 27cent in the Euro the council spends in the town on such things are repairs wages and services comes from business people And ultimately that money has

    Find out what s on this month New Chamber President encourages businesses Article Added 01 03 2012 Published in The Nationalist on Wednesday 29 February 2012 09 02 Following Cashel Chamber of Commerce s AGM on Wednesday February22 President Mike Ryan who gave enormous dedication to the organisation over the last two years has stepped from office He has been replaced by the new President and former PRO Sean Laffey Treasurer John Lacy has remained in the same position and both Catherine Stapleton and Niall Gregory have returned to the committee after two years involvement in other ventures Catherine Stapleton has resumed her former position of Chamber Secretary and Niall Gregory has take up the posts of Vice President and Acting PRO The Chamber AGM saw an excellent turnout representing all facets of Cashel business community in particular that of the retail sector In his inaugural presentation Mr Laffey identified the need for an on going strong cross sector representation of business community to ensure the Chamber s effective success into the future He welcomed all initiatives and suggestions and that given the economic challenges faced by every business and household none should be considered inconsequential The Rock of Cashel was a key item that came up for discussion As one of the most visited heritage sites in the country and the most visited one in any town in Ireland there is poor translation to that of tourism economy for the town National figures show that for every E1 invested in heritage tourism this correlates to E4 40 spent in the economy The Chamber will shortly seek to engage with Cashel Town Council to jointly engage with the Office of Public Works who are the custodians of the Rock to create a more direct link between visitors and Cashel economy
