  • Getting into the Christmas spirit while remembering there are so many still in need | Carol Hunt
has started was a huge success last week The Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire Christmas Fairs provide lots of wonderful gifts and seasonal items for lucky people But while it would be lovely to believe that everything is so much better for everybody this year unfortunately that isn t the truth We have thousands of people homeless an increasing number of them children hundreds of sick elderly people lying on trolleys in hospitals for hours or days global warming is causing drought and climate change leading to economic and consequently political upheaval and there are families all over Ireland living in fear of losing their homes to the banks We re living in an increasingly divided and unequal country where the most vulnerable are being pushed ever further into poverty This isn t good for any of us rich poor or squeezed middle Can we make 2016 the year of social gender and economic equality As someone once said yes we can If we have the courage to change the system we can care for ALL our people And as Dr Noel Browne said If you don t like the political system get involved Change it Share this Facebook Twitter LinkedIn

and the government dealt with it badly but getting rid of it would mean people losing their jobs Also it would be a waste of all money the government has up to this point spent on it Also I think cruise ships in Dun Laoghaire habour is a good idea Of course the tourists will be definitely be getting on buses and darts to go into town or down to Wicklow but there will be more foot traffic in Dun Laoghaire and i think that s what Dun Laoghaire needs By the way I would love to get involved in your campaign Unfortunately I m in fifth year and I m in school studying nearly everyday until 9 at night Pity me please I m studying for my Christmas exams and I ve got a lot of things going such as debating and hockey and my poor mother doesn t want me taking on anymore responsibilities I m sorry for the lousy excuse but hopefully I can get involved after Christmas or maybe sooner The one thing I really want you to take away from this email is that well in the eyes of this idealist teenage girl you seem awesome and super brave It s really inspiring to see women like you I wish you all the best in your campaign and don t forget to be awesome Now after I dried my tears I realised that Brid and girls like her was the reason I was trying to get into politics and that I needed to contact her asap and tell her how much her email meant to me And so I did And Brid and her Mum came to the fundraiser and met all my friends and supporters and Brid won a fabulous book Wilde s Women written by local author Eleanor Fitzsimons who was there and was delighted to sign it for her So it all ended well Lots of people turned up We raised cash for posters etc Marian Keyes arrived with her gorgeous husband Tony and loads of goodies for prizes Roisin Ingle raffled her fab book Eamon Dunphy gave a great speech as did Shane Ross I prepared a speech went to my friend Breda s to get it printed my printer as usual being broken lost it found it again and then didn t bother referring to it at all because it just didn t seem right so I just ad libbed We drank lots of wine and the wonderful staff in Cafe du Journal were fantastic So many thanks to all who came or donated gifts or contributed in a myriad of other ways I am very grateful to you all And there ll be another fundraiser in December But it will be a nice easy going pub quiz in my local pub the Wishing Well All welcome of course See you there Carol Vincent Browne no shows and fundraiser 3 Nov 2015 in Uncategorized by Carol Hunt I Survived the

  • Issues | Carol Hunt
political and social issues I have come to firmly believe that our political system needs to do much better for the individuals and families it is meant to serve As a member of the Independent Alliance I will not answer to a party whip but will work with other politicians toward a set of shared principles It s time to change how we do politics in Ireland IT S TIME FOR JUSTICE Not feeling the economic recovery Wondering if you re living in a different Ireland to the one inhabited by our government You re not the only one There have been disproportionate cuts to supports for many of our most vulnerable groups lone parents those with a disability children and our elderly Add new charges such as property tax and water and many individuals and families are having to choose between paying bills or food and heat yet in the last budget the government gave the major portion of available resources to the better off After five regressive budgets in a row it s time for justice Below you can read some of Carol s opinion pieces from the Sunday Independent on issues central to her campaign Education College pressure is too much we need to revive the apprenticeship Education not marriage should be the priority for Traveller children We need more inclusivity in Irish schools not less Unless we uncover the truth we risk repeating mistakes School sex education must be comprehensive and regulated Sex education must reflect our digital era Charity It s not just chuggers on the street we need to be giving wide berth to Charity and empathy are no match for our malaise Economics The boom time party is back baby but nobody wants to raise a glass just yet Recession is certainly not over for our elderly The nuclear option for mortgage lending Home is where the young heart lies The uppity self employed Just who do they think they are A tale of two Irelands but one of them is pure fiction Give us increased tax credits and childcare breaks A growing wealth gap puts burden on the poor No bubbly in budget land just bargain fruit n veg Bankers are still trying to bamboozle us with jargon People are dying in debt and desperation Bankers have secret backstairs to Department of Finance Homeowners are stuck in a medieval morality play Feminism Everyone knows that a mother s place is in the wrong Constitutionally women are still breeding machines Quotas discriminating against men It seems the backlash has begun Men need political quotas all of their own Politics is a boy s club where cronyism and chauvinism work together We need a cultural shift in attitudes to gender violence Feminism fails to confront rise of Sharia law Equality shouldn t vary from culture to culture Wake up to the cold hard facts of rising worldwide misogyny Lock up men to keep women safe at night Violent misogyny on Facebook is no laughing
