I went to the Women s Aid Manifesto launch and once again discussed the crisis facing organisations working with women funding continues to be decimated while demand rises Again Recovery For who At the launch of Amnesty International Ireland NotACriminal video by Graham Linehan he and his wife and Roisin Ingle spoke brilliantly and honestly about the realities of having to access abortion for whatever reasons We ve been having the same conversation for thirty years now and still politicians refuse to face reality Link to my article in the Herald Also yesterday after over a month missing the Apple people still couldn t locate my under warranty laptop which was sent for repair in early September So I still had no Mac And after collecting and starting to give out invites to my fundraiser an eagle eyed Barbara Scully at the book launch of Eleanor Fitzsimons s brilliant new book Wilde s Women spotted that the date was wrong Yes I know I know always check before handing in So all that printing and paper was wasted However today I got a new replacement computer new invites printed and I m off to Tara Flynn s book launch now Giving Out Yards and best of all a family member who had the dreaded C has been given an excellent prognosis Oiche Mhaith http www herald ie opinion carol hunt linehans sad story shows why a vote on abortion is now vital 34122620 html Eamon Dunphy will be launching my fundraiser on 5th November at Cafe Du Journal Monkstown With lots of other interesting people attending I hope This is fundamentally DIY politics as I ve no party and no history of politicians in my family or close circle Many of us think that entering politics and becoming a candidate

  • What about the Men? | Carol Hunt
most probably because they were approved of by the Catholic Nationalists who re interpreted our history for their own ends As it was a piece which mentioned the importance of the work of feminists I got the usual what about the men comments on social media I expected that of course and in many cases they can be funny off the cuff or genuinely concerned at violence against both genders There s always a few however that suggest a hatred for women who fight for equal rights that are downright scary Accusations that women are actually the privileged gender while men are being discriminated against by feminists feminazis have dropped into my in box Seemingly reports of an increase in violence against women is simply a ruse to demonise men The women are making it up Led on by feminists And it s actually the poor men who being terrorised Therefore so the argument goes why shouldn t VAW organisations and rape crisis centres have their funding cut They re just encouraging women to invent tales in order to demonise men Seriously this is what some people think In 2015 Sad but true The revolution isn t over yet Link

the women who dedicated their lives to getting the vote as well as working for labour rights and how they ve been forgotten I certainly didn t learn much if anything about them at school All we were told about was Maud Gonne and Constance Markievitz most probably because they were approved of by the Catholic Nationalists who re interpreted our history for their own ends As it was a piece which mentioned the importance of the work of feminists I got the usual what about the men comments on social media I expected that of course and in many cases they can be funny off the cuff or genuinely concerned at violence against both genders There s always a few however that suggest a hatred for women who fight for equal rights that are downright scary Accusations that women are actually the privileged gender while men are being discriminated against by feminists feminazis have dropped into my in box Seemingly reports of an increase in violence against women is simply a ruse to demonise men The women are making it up Led on by feminists And it s actually the poor men who being terrorised Therefore so the argument

bullet point list of the issues that I m very interested in improving like childcare lone parents supports small business and self employed housing etc then I realised that it looked just like every other political brochure I ve ever read and didn t really say anything about me or why I ve decided to run for election So for my first intro literature I ve decided to keep it very simple and direct and honest I ll be interested to know what you think And once again I m appealing to you al for any contributions you can afford every tenner makes a huge difference Just go to the Donate page on my blog Also I need volunteers Our first canvass is tomorrow Tuesday meet at 6 30 at the Wishing Well Newpark Blackrock And I won t pretend that I m not a bit nervous I ve canvassed for other parties before and for campaigns like Equal Marriage but that s very different to canvassing for myself Also I m having a fundraiser on 29th October in Cafe Du Journal Monkstown Details to follow so keep the date free Again thanks for your support Spread the word Carol

2015 in Uncategorized by Carol Hunt Like many other people I was disgusted to hear last week that yet another women s refuge will be denied the funding to continue helping people who are victims of violence within their own homes What are our priorities Why are the most vulnerable lone parents children with special needs victims of violence suffering most from austerity The huge increase in child poverty is particularly horrific Yet this week we brushed off the fact that millions and millions of out taxes have been squandered by inefficient and downright inept governance Money that could be used for social housing special needs teachers or women s refuges I wrote a column on it but sitting at home expressing my anger isn t going to change anything is it Which is why I m running for election in Dun Laoghaire in the next general election As the late Noel Browne told me once If you don t like the political system get involved Change it Canvassing fundraising and all the effort needed to put a decent campaign together for someone with no political party political background family links etc hell I m not even a teacher nor

a time as any to call an election And the race will be on Of course those who are members of the established political parties have an immediate advantage They have a party system to fall back on with advisors and volunteers and most importantly cash to spend on posters and literature and the odd helicopter with banners So in order to learn a little more about what going for election entails I signed up for the Women for Election Equip Bootcamp which took place earlier this month in the Hodson Bay Hotel Athlone Okay I went straight from the Electric Picnic to the hotel on the Sunday I missed Florence and the Machine playing that night but I was assured it would be worth the sacrifice It was more Repealing the 8th 8 Sep 2015 in Uncategorized by Carol Hunt My column on amnesty debate about creating a safe space to talk about abortion With many thanks to the wonderful Tara Flynn The big C word CASH and where to get it 30 Jul 2015 in Uncategorized by Carol Hunt Right So I ve spent the last week meeting people and trying to sort out some sort of a team to help me with this election stuff This is fundamentally DIY politics as I ve no party and no history of politicians in my family or close circle But I m learning as I go And it s good to have the opportunity to do as it were democracy in real time and learn how the whole shebang works Most of think that entering politics and becoming a candidate is a Very Difficult Thing to do and Not For The Likes of Us I m hoping to prove the opposite that politics is open to all men and women particularly women as we need so many more of them in Leinster House who don t necessarily have a political background I have to say that so far my fellow Independents have been fantastic is supporting me and giving me their time and expertise It s nice to be able to deal with people who don t have to look over their shoulder in case their party pulls them up for helping out the outsider Getting people to give advice on political life isn t too hard but getting them to commit to actually working with me up until the actual election is rather more difficult Particularly as I don t know when that will be Autumn or Spring Who knows Best bets are for next February but the whole thing seemingly is the gift of the Taoiseach meaning he can call it anytime between now and the beginning of next April Another problem of course is that I have no budget As I ve spent years working first as an actor then as a writer journalist I am all too familiar with the phrase but you ll get great exposure when people try to get you to donate your
