    Partner OUR MISSION Is to raise the skills and labour market aspirations of individuals in Ballymun Support for Employers Support to Employers Relationships with Employers A key element of the work at the BJC is to build relationships with employers The BJC provides a professional and free service to employers assisting them in recruitment of staff The BJC has over twenty years experience of working with employers in meeting their recruitment needs Building Partnerships Employability is influenced by a number of diverse factors In recognition of this the BJC has built relationships and works closely with a wide range of public private community and local national and European organisations Training and Education In order to improve the prospects for clients accessing quality sustainable employment it is often necessary to increase their skills and educational levels Thus the development of training and education programmes is an important aspect of the work of the BJC As a result the BJC has developed and implemented many training and education programmes The BJC has worked and continues to work with a wide range of agencies in order to deliver the training PARTNERSHIP WITH IKEA We work closely with IKEA to maximise employment opportunities for local people Our aim is to ensure that local people are aware of employment opportunities given detailed information on IKEA requirements and supported in making an application The BJC organised for IKEA to meet with local agencies around how best to support local people into local jobs The BJC agreed with IKEA to use our phone numbers as the telephone contact for all IKEA job advertisements during their pre store opening recruitment phase In conjunction with the Department of Social Protection details of the job opportunities were sent to 2 300 people in the area who were on the Live

    Emerge Employment Initiative Employers Information The aim of this programme was to support organisations working with unemployed vulnerable groups use measures which will help their clients enter the labour market The initiative also developed an adaptable model of inclusive labour market serivce delivery The emerge project offered two supportive Programmes to meet local employer needs 1 PREPARATION FOR EMPLOYMENT Part time pre employment programmes that prepare clients for local employment oppertunities Programmes focus on communications confidence buidling team building personal development and work sampling Any specific required training to meet employment criteria is included 2 CAREER DEVELOPMENT IN THE WORKPLACE A free career guidance process at work to enable employees recognise their skills and interests and to use these to benefit their career progression Improve career management skills including the ability to access training and education identify career development opportunities and practically apply a career plan Empower the indvidual to progress in their career development raise aspirations develop a strong work ethic and increase potential HOW WILL MY COMPANY BENEFIT An opportunity to be involved in designing a programme to match your industry s needs and to build in aspects of your mission statement into the curriculum As a participating

    and personality style and how this lack of self knowledge can inhibit the individual in accessing appropriate vocational training and subsequently fulfilling employment We also found that the available guidance tools tend to be unsuitable for our clients We found that the clients using the tools were often disadvantaged by a limited repertoire of language lack of understanding of the concepts presented and unfamiliarity with the testing environment and methods The guidance staff use the tools in their day to day work with clients The tools form part of the career guidance process For example the tool provides information to the client on the type of or area of work they are most interested in When the client completes the tool the guidance staff and the client discuss the results The meeting is used to explain the results and to clarify any questions the client may have The guidance tools are an example how an idea identified from a gap in the service provided to clients was tested as a pilot EU project and then developed into a mainstream practical guidance tool that is now used in the BJC day to day work with the clients 1 INFORM is a system that assists clients who are unaware of their competencies developed in everyday life such as managing a household doing the shopping looking after children watching TV participating in sports etc to identify the competencies that they have already developed which may be transferable to the labour market can be used as a springboard into education training further career guidance The tool is very much pitched at clients who are vulnerable and who may feel that they have very few skills abilities the real benefit of using this tool is to motivate clients who may have weaker skills including literacy

    their choice The objective is to devise an appropriate future focused progression plan The agreed plan includes step by step long and short term goals which are realistic and achieveable As part of a career plan clients may be referred to other local support agencies and to training education while the guidance staff continue to offer ongoing assistance and encouragement until attainable goals are reached The staff work mainly through one to one interviews using various assessments and guidance tools APTITUDE These tests are used to measure a person s potential for certain activities INTEREST These tests examine a person s interests and how they may fit a suitable career area Interests consist of what a person likes and enjoys doing PERSONALITY A personality test looks at patterns of behaviour thoughts and feelings Each individual has a unique personality and this is also applicable in the occupational setting The aim is to identify the barriers that may prevent clients progressing onto education training or sustainable employment The guidance staff support clients to access a range of education and training programmes These range from basic skills and literacy to technical skills and degree programmes As part of an agreed guidance plan the client may have to undertake a series of steps but the ultimate goal is meaningful and sustainable employment THE PROCESS OF COMPLETING PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING WITH THE BALLYMUN JOB CENTRE The Ballymun Job Centre has a Psychological Testing Policy which aims to ensure the use of Psychological Testing within the BJC is in line with standards set out by the British Psychological Society BPS the Psychological Society of Ireland PSI and the International Test Commission ITC This policy covers such areas as the welfare of the client the storage of tests the scoring administration and interpretation of tests the process

    has a strong belief in the need to remain innovative and to try new ideas to address identified issues arising from the day to day experience of clients Since the mid 90s the BJC has accessed and managed various European Union and private trusts funded programmes These provide the BJC with the resources necessary to be innovative and to test new ideas and ways of working Over the years the BJC has made determined efforts to ensure the lessons and work of the EU Projects improved the delivery of services and the way we work with clients Local Empowerment Workshops In June the first of three Local Empowerment Workshops LEW was be held in the receiving cities namely Taranto Budapest Vidin and Prague The BJC has been paired with Prague and at the workshop began preparations for the transfer of the Equal Youth Interagency model http www equal youth ie to two districts in Prague working with migrants The second LEW will be held in Prague in November The BJC has a strong belief in the need to remain innovative and to try new ideas to address identified issues arising from the experience of clients The BJC aims to identify
