teachers involving similar steps to create goals that have the best chance to be achieved The best known would be Peter Ducker s SMART goal setting acronym Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic and Timed Pick the one that suits you best personally I like the PRESSENT goal setting acronym Positive set your goal in the positive for example when my long term illness MS started to affect my physical abilities and I had to start using a wheelchair My goal was to walk again my motivation was to get out of the wheelchair So instead of I don t want to be in a wheelchair my goals was that I wanted to walk Responsible you can only control your own actions so make sure the goal is your responsibility This doesn t mean you have to do it all yourself you can and should bring in others to help you if special skills or an extra set of hands to lighten the load are required In my example I wanted to get my ability to walk back without the use of medicine which meant my doctors weren t qualified to help me I therefore had to look for help from somewhere else I did some research online and found an American doctor who had achieved the same I was lucky because she had written a book on what she had done I had to adjust the strategy slightly to do it in Ireland with 2 young children It was all about food and exercise and some weren t available here I looked for substitutes and how to implement it into my life One of the things I did was use household chores to strengthen my muscles Environment Set the date and time when you want to achieve your goal I had set the date to the 8 of August 2015 at 9 in the evening We were invited to a wedding that day and this was a great opportunity to dance with my husband Specific be as specific as you can about your goal To go back to the example and my own goal Not only did I want to walk but I wanted to walk unaided I wanted to play with my children and dance with my husband as we would say like mad eejits Senses when you set your goal think about the feeling you will have when you achieve your goal Where you will be when you get the news you achieved your goal including sound smells tastes and other sensations that you might have To come back to the example my own goal we come back into the room for the evening celebrations there are a few tables around the dance floor the lights are dimmed and the dj is playing a kaiser Chiefs song We are the first on the dance floor Ecology how will you getting your goal affect those around you your near and dear and others that would be affected For my example

say Well let s just think about it for a moment If you have been in business for any length of time you will likely have regular customers Most of us when we find something we want to have it again and again However when what we like changes all the time we lose our enthusiasm to visit more often What chef is on Form a staff point of view regulars will sometimes call and ask who is on in the kitchen today Based on the answer this will either have them coming in looking forward to a nice meal or going elsewhere This is one of the major hidden issues with lack of consistency The goal of business is to find and keep customers and consistency is the foundation Other Impacts It also has other impacts It can cost huge amounts in waste loss of potential sales and repeat customers Let me give you an example I recently conducted a secret shopper for a client and was amazed at how much food was being served Now many people think big is best but it really is not What I heard from other dinners that I listened too was wow the portions are huge and how will I eat my main course after this huge starter God we will never get through all of this No I won t even look at the dessert menu I am stuffed Now hearing I am stuffed can give positive connotations However the end of the conversation told me everything I needed to know Next time we are in let s just go for a main as we will never eat all the food that comes with starters and mains in one go Loss of sales So let s look at this Too big
