    May last Saturday in May There are two pre school groups aged between 4 and 5 as well as 5 and 6 The children in these groups are taught to speak Lithuanian among themselves and with adults they are introduced to Lithuanian traditions national holidays and folklore The school age children are divided into 8 separate classes according to their age and partially according to their knowledge of the language The time of lessons is divided the following way the Lithuanian language takes up the first three hours of lessons During these lessons the children are taught the course adapted by our teachers according to the recommendations of the Lithuanian Department of Education and Science this is based upon Lithuanian schoolbooks pupils get their personal workbooks and other necessary educational material which is thoroughly prepared according to a specific teaching programme The two remaining lessons are artistically culturally oriented i e music dance art drama etc The pupils can choose a subject themselves The pupils of primary school age class 1 to 6 are taught the Lithuanian language in separate classes The structure of such classes is similar to the structure of lessons in regular schools i e the topic of a lesson is explained to the pupils by the teacher class work and homework is given comprehension of subjects is checked on a regular basis Secondary school age pupils are divided into two groups the first one embraces the course equivalent to class 7 to 8 of a Lithuanian school whereas the second group comprises class 9 to 12 The tasks for pupils in these groups are individually oriented depending on their knowledge of the Lithuanian language The tasks are then solved and completed by the pupils on their own consulting the teacher in charge Other general assignments are also given to pupils various discussions and projects take place Pupils spoken and written Lithuanian is built up which is something they lack in Irish schools The main emphasis during the classes is the preparation of pupils for the Irish Leaving Certificate Lithuanian examination The main deal of attention in our school is paid to the development and teaching of the Lithuanian language as one s linguistic cultural and national identity basis We integrate main Lithuanian national holidays into the curriculum we introduce our pupils to traditions and customs of our culture Not only do we school our pupils in the comprehension of certain subjects but we also encourage and help them develop certain social skills such as ability to communicate creativity etc We enable them to adjust the acquired knowledge as well as develop further higher skills such as asking questions and being able to find answers to them analysing summarising concluding evaluating argumentation We do our best to ensure that the knowledge they acquire through each subject will awaken certain creative ideas in their minds will motivate them to search explore will help to grasp the meaning of time and space as well as their own existence Such

    school since it was opened At the beginning of the second year the management was passed to Ms J Kazlauskiene At the moment Ms L Ignataviciene is working as a director of the school 5 teachers volunteers are working with children at school Banga 52 pupils are studying in four groups from 3 to 14 years old The children at school are taught Lithuanian writing skills science arts and crafts play training games We help for the children recently arrived to Ireland to integrate into Irish life The pupils at school are being trained the communication skills with children of the same age and adults In performing the team work and projects they feel pleasure of the team work creating learning playing they increase their self confidence Especially the individual talents are being developed and stimulated This year our pupil Airidas Vaitkus 9 participated in an international children s and youth exposition of creative work Baltoji Zeme The White Earth and was awarded an acknowledgement Edvinas Valatka 10 became a laureate of a national competition of the electronic card Zeme Musu Namai The Earth is Our Home and won a respectful third place It became a tradition in Cork s

    to 12 already took part in the celebration to open a monument to the Lithuanian aviator Feliksas Vaitkus We introduced our school to the local Irish community We also made contacts with Lithuanian aviation museum and magazine Aviacijos pasaulis The World of Aviation It is planned that students will be taught in two groups 1st group children aged from 5 to 9 who cannot either read or write in Lithuanian 2nd group children from 10 to 12 who already have at least basics of Lithuanian The subjects 1 Lithuanian 2 Geography 3 Lithuanian history Music and Art lessons will take place not every Saturday but just before various celebrations We will have Kindness lessons every Saturday which will last for half an hour ethics religion Lithuanian customs and traditions Also we are planning to participate in various projects with the Irish community These include visiting nursing home prisons taking part in Irish festivals We also want to involve older children from 12to 16 who could take part in international projects and to celebrate Lithuanian festivals Lessons take place every Saturday from 11 p m to 2 p m children will be taught by three teachers having university degree Dalia Jasiulionienė

    Jurgita left for Lithuania In the course of the year there were the lessons of integrated Lithuanian language science history music choreography organised We have been working since that time just three months but we could manage to organise March 11 Restoration of Independence Day festival for the community of Dundalk We did not forget Mother s day and arranged a perfect and vivacious celebration in Beer Keeper s pub At the end of the school year we participated in an event Draugystes Tiltas Bridge of Friendship which was organised by Lithuanians in Dublin During the school year of 2006 2007 the staff of the teachers did not change In August of 2007 the director of the school Mr Mindaugas Kerpe passed his duties to Mr Egidijus Vaitkus and himself left for Lithuania In the course of the school year the pupils were coming and leaving A lot of pupils from Monaghan were studying at this school That s why when the school was opened in Monaghan in February a number of pupils of our school significantly decreased 15 children finished that year 6 of them have been attending the school since its opening In spite of the pupil turnover there was an ordinary routine at school Teachers were giving lessons of integrated Lithuanian language science history music choreography We organised a nice Christmas afternoon carnival for children and their parents in Beer Keeper s pub and a commemoration of March 11 for the community of Dundalk and a birthday party of our school in Park Inn hotel The children and their parents and Lithuanians of Dundalk community had a chance to listen to the songs performed by Virgis Stakenas to have a discussion with minister Prof Kazimiera Prunskiene During this event it was presented a huge exposition of children
