my motherboard using sata cable the problem is the odd doesn t work anymore it always rejecting any cd every time i try to put inside and from device manager win7 32 and 64bit the odd detected as GX15N not a GA10N i try to install GA10N driver into the windows but always failed since there are no GA10N attached into the system First Are you absolutely sure that the external unit you ve got actually works OK The optical drive itself could be defective Did you bought this recently or you had it before and you re absolutely sure that it works 100 Taking the drive out of the enclosure and connecting it directly to a computer should work just fine without any need of crossflashing The drive seems to be recognised OK as a GX15N so it should normally work just fine there s no reason why it shouldn t work OK I guess its not completely impossible that this particular drive is somehow special but I haven t yet encountered so far a single drive taken from an external enclosure which did not work just fine when connected to a computer directly so this would be quite an unusual case I think it would be more likely that the drive itself might be defective can no longer read disks but let s hope that I m wrong on this If the drive is somehow defective crossflashing it will definitely not fix it Secondly Assuming that the drive is OK and somehow the issue is indeed due to the GX15N firmware the reason your attempt to crossflash it to a GA10N failed is because the two drives have different cores If you want to crossflash the drive you will have to follow a more complicated core crossflashing procedure similar to the one described in this thread viewtopic php f 2 t 46780 Before you do that maybe try first updating your GX15N firmware to the latest version A206 here http www76 zippyshare com v 32995346 file html and see if this cures the problem If it doesn t then you ve got no other choice than to risk a crossflash cvs Posting Wizard Posts 571 Joined Tue Mar 28 2006 11 15 is that the firmware is 1901568 bytes in size AFAIK proper firmware is 2048KB in size MCSE confirms this by not even allowing me to modify it in any way even though it lists support So how can this be done This is on an alienware laptop btw A relatively new one I can post the extracted firmware but it probably does not differ from one that was posted here earlier You can safely ignore that error message Your dump was in fact completed successfully The file size of 1901568 bytes you got for the firmware dump is the correct size for these drives I ve got a good dump of the A101 00 firmware and it has exactly the same file size as yours MCSE does not support GS3xN firmwares that s why it doesn t allow you to do any changes If you have a different firmware than A101 post your dump here please cvs Posting Wizard Posts 571 Joined Tue Mar 28 2006 11 15 pm Location UK Top Reply with quote Re HL DT ST DVD RW GS30N by Mangix on Thu Oct 25 2012 6 51 am forgot i even posted this anyway since MCSE isn t showing the version i ll just assume that it is that version the hashes are SHA1 CFD8040A6E62DEAC7E94ED961360CDADD402AD0F SHA256 AE333FB13DB7ADDFC8E9C4E3CC0E17F9A5A5CBD0C2CAAB5A3FE510CE226E6A0C download link https dl dropbox com u 102011983 main bin Mangix New Member Posts 2 Joined Sat Aug 25 2012 7 14 am Top Reply with quote Re HL DT ST DVD RW GS30N by Brad555 on Mon Dec 03 2012 1 42 pm The CD ROM actually works it s just not being detected the driver is not found Also I flashed my BIOS from version A03 to A05 I believe The disc ejects when I use the
