Mechanical engineering and accounting of Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology were rewarded as Provincial Level “First Class” Programmes of Guangdong Province in 2020, published in The List of Provincial Level “First Class” Programmes in 2020 by Department of Education of Guangdong Province. The list of the majors is open for public review from November 12 to 14.

Mechanical engineering and accounting are the first programmes with authoritative professional certification in GCU. In 2017, mechanical engineering has been granted first-time IEET Accreditation Certificates in Guangdong Province, and in 2018, accounting has been successfully granted one of the first-time IACBE international accreditation programs in China. Both of them have achieved excellent results in authoritative professional certification and specialty construction of quality engineering. This time, 310 general undergraduate majors were decided to be awarded as provincial level first class programmes in 2020 in Guangdong Province. The selection of mechanical engineering and accounting means that we have made new breakthroughs in specialty construction, as well as highlights the professional connotation and building capacity, which also has great significance in promoting the quality of the cultivation of specialized talents.

Based on the needs of regional industrial development and according to the discipline construction approach of engineering-centered, multi-disciplinary development, GCU has a sound planning on the setup of majors and disciplines, and has formed a structure which puts engineering first and features the coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The university has 16 affiliated colleges and 40 majors now. We actively carry out exploration and practice of emerging engineering and burgeoning arts, completing the update and renovation of the existed majors, such as mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, and also developing a number of emerging engineering and burgeoning arts urgently needed, such as robotics engineering, data science, big data technology and supply chain management etc. Meanwhile, the universtiy has built a number of newest courses reflected industrial and technological development, such as provincial exquisite course of “Organizational Theory”, “Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology”, and “College English” etc.
